Is it okay to mix these two herbal supplements?


I bought St. John’s wort for mood/emotion enhancement and Ginkgo for memory improvement, Is it okay to take these two together? Or take one first then take the other herb at a later time? Or is it just as bad to take them both for the same day?

think of herbs as foods not drugs. Generally they are ok to mix and these two certainly are.

The main problem is one would not take two herbs with the opposite effect at the same time..for example taking as emetic drug and an anti-emetic drug.

For best results, do not use capsules as most are useless.

Why? Because organic herbs are 7-10 times higher in the pytochemicals that cure and prevent diseases than conventional herbs which often are grown in third world countries as the buyer can get them picked for pennies a day and some of these country use unsanitary growing conditions or things like DDT.

The best is a tincture (liquid extract) as the alcohol menstrum extracts more of the chemicals from the plant than a tea does, but a tea is much better than a capsule (use distilled water as it is empty and extrafts more plant chemicals when making teas (infusions and decoctions)

The tincture is immediately absorbed into the blood stream unlike the capsuled herb which is often not absorbed at all and sometimes are burnt in the powdering process and lose the oils.

2. With st john’s wort, you are better buying a whole plant tincture such as herbpharm organic tinctures as they do not standardize and isolate one chemical ignoring the many cofactors in the plants-the phytochemicals and the nutrients that work synergistally (together) to support the chemical that some isolate and standardized.

3. a good tincture dose is 60 drops 3- 5 times a day (2 dropperfuls 5 x a day)

4. for best results use cayenne with your herbs. A study on ginkgo showed that it helped sometime like 28% of the people but if they took it together with cayenne, about 97% were helped.

This is because cayenne is a catalyst herb and it helps make anything it is taken with work better and get to the organ. A tincture is best or a tea (see herballegacy for how to make and gradually work up to a higher dose for cayenne tea). you could try capsules though if you refuse to take it in the other forms.

5 do other things that help the brain and depression

a. take organic rosemary, cayenne, and ginkgo tinctures at the doses above

b. do a good colon cleanse as this has actually helped severe and retractive depression. e. do things that help with stress and depression like journaling, talking, exercise, etc and enhance memory like memorizing things, doing puzzles etc

but no there is no problem…Dr. Christopher taught and discovered with his patients. that herbs worked better if you take for 6 days and not the 7th and for 6 weeks and not the 7th
